The beginning of Writing 105 is a new and unusual experience learning how to conform to a different way of thinking and change your idea of writing analytically. In chapter 1, we started by reading the article "What is Literacy", in which Melzer and Coxwell-Teague talk about the different mediums you can find literacy. As a composer or a reader literacy plays a part in whatever you may be experiencing. It could be music, textbooks, websites, journals etc. there are a million different ways to find literacy just throughout your everyday life. In our course so far we have created many different types of literacy. The article talks about how in order to be literate, a person must know how to cross structures between language and knowledge of cultural diversity. Our first polished work of literacy was the college essay. We began writing by thinking of how to sum up our whole education career into why we should be spending our next 4 years at this school. Our teacher had assisted our thinking by asking us questions during class, questions that shifted our thinking and gave us ideas. Then, we started working on our e-portfolio in which we have been able to go multi-model on many assignments we do in this class. We have focused a lot of attention on code switching in which we made our college essay into a different medium. Being able to do this has shaped our definitions of literacy and has broadened our knowledge of it different forms.
