A Chance of Sunshine

The movie Little Miss Sunshine is about a family that has a hard time supporting everyone in it. The father is a college professor who bases his life around being either a winner or a loser. This mindset is always being pushed on their daughter Olive, who is training to be in the Little Miss Sunshine Pageant. This is an example of the family teaching their child what they think is a normal. They are contesting her beauty and pressuring her to be a winner. Her father advises her not to eat ice cream, because ice cream makes you fat. Therefore, Miss America does not eat ice cream. The son, Dwayne makes it clear that he won’t talk to anyone until he becomes an Air Force Pilot. His silence has become a normalcy in their family. Their two kids are preparing themselves to be ”winners”, so they can be categorized by what is considered normal.
